About EDF Energy

EDF Energy is an integrated energy company based in the United Kingdom. Its operations span electricity generation and the sale of gas and electricity to homes and businesses across the country. It employs more than 13,000 people and handles 5.7 million customer accounts.

How we made a difference

  • The Problem

EDF required an interactive training system it could use to validate the competency of staff entering the Hinkley Point Nuclear Power Station construction site. The solution would play an integral role in ensuring the health and safety of everyone on site.

  • The Solution

We worked in partnership with Advanced Thinking Systems to architect an end-to-end solution. The project was co-developed alongside EDF's existing contractors Accenture.

The solution included an iPad app that enabled tutors to manage sessions and monitor staff’s progress. Every training participant was also provided with an iPod to watch educational videos, answer questions and track their progress through the training exercise.

  • The Result

The system was configured to run as an independent architecture. This ensured the customer could deploy multiple instances on-site without conflict.

EDF now uses the solution to onboard new staff quickly and efficiently. It automatically feeds into the security system, ensuring security can print security access cards for those staff members who pass the competency training.
